I wasn't going to blog about this, but seeing how it has rippled through the Floyd family with such speed and enthusiasm, I decided that maybe my story is worthy of being on our blog.
On Saturday night, Scott and I went to the Jazz v. Kings basketball game. We love basketball, we love the Jazz, and we absolutely love Jimmer. We thought this would be the perfect game for us. Really, it was a win-win-win situation. As the game started, we were somewhat surprised to hear booing every time Jimmer touched the ball. So we, being the Jimmermaniacs that we are, cheered even louder every time Jimmer did anything, and I mean anything, notable. The couple in front of us were extreme Jimmer/BYU haters. We bantered back and forth with this couple, as is expected between rivals at a basketball game, and by the end of the game the girl was pretty worked up.
Jimmer made a great shot, the crowd went wild, and the lovely lady in front of us pulled out her phone and texted her friend about stupid Mormon ***********(word I refuse to repeat). Scott let her know that she had chosen some really choice words, so she backspaced a bit and capitalized the dirty words that she was sending. This was especially ironic, because she kept telling us that we were being disrespectful by cheering for Jimmer, instead of the Jazz.
Anyways, it was the end of the fourth quarter and Jimmer was on the bench. The crowd started chanting We Want JIMMER over and over again. I started enthusiastically cheering with the crowd, and the sweetheart in front of me put her hand behind her head and started flipping me off. I thought that was completely uncalled for, so I grabbed her finger and pushed it away from me. I do not like to get flipped off from strangers because I am cheering for my favorite athlete, and I do not like gross people's hands in my face. I thought I was completely justified-although she did not feel the same way. The crazy girl turned around and started screaming at me. She said the F word more times than I have heard in the last 5 years combined, and told me she was going to rip my "freaking" face off and eat it for breakfast. How do you respond to that? Even though I was a little bit scared/shaky, I kept my composure and with a smile on my face, told her to not flip me off ever again.
Scott couldn't believe the whole situation-he was so proud. Apparently my dad was also proud of me, because he called my grandpa to tell him about it. My grandpa told me, the only thing that would have made him more proud was if I would have tied her finger in a knot. He also suggested to take a golf club to the next game, just in case I am lucky enough to sit by her again.
So there you have it-that's my story. Now Scott proudly calls me his fighting girl. And just for the record, I would proudly fight for Jimmer again, even if he did miss the game winning shot.
WOW! Never would I have thought that would have happened here in UT. Although there are plenty of anti-mormons, I would never think it would get this bad! Ha! And good for Grandpa for sticking up for you!! Go Gramps!!!
