Won't You Blend With Me?

For Mother's Day this year, Scott gave me a Blendtec blender. And by gave, I mean, he told me I could buy one, so I went to Costco and bought it for myself the very next day.

Anyways, I have been in blending heaven these last few days. Every other sentence in my evening conversation with Scott consists of me telling him about recipes that I can whip up in a matter of seconds, or about the super duper powers of this little piece of machinery. Seriously guys, this blender can act as a wheat grinder, an ice crusher, a food processor, an ice cream maker, and pretty much anything else you can dream of. I know, WOW! Maybe I am late to the game, and everyone has been obsessed with these blenders for a long time, but for me, this blender is a newfound luxury!

The original reason for wanting the Blendtec blender was to make my own baby food. The little jars of baby food at the store are way too expensive and sit on the shelves for so long, that I don't even want to know what truly is in those gross little jars of "food."

My first baby food experiment was butternut squash. Blending up the steamed veggies was a breeze, and took around 30 seconds. I thought it was pretty delicious as far as baby food goes, although Bo was not impressed.

I also made this amazing one ingredient ice cream. I heard about the recipe from my sister, and found the directions here.  If you have a hefty blender, or a food processor, you should definitely try this.

1) Cut 2 ripe but not overly ripe bananas into slices.
 2) Freeze the banana slices overnight, or for the day.
 3) Place your frozen banana slices into a very sturdy blender or food processor and blend away. Keep scraping the sides and blending until you have a rich and creamy texture. This took a couple of minutes in my blender.
4) You can be super healthy and enjoy the rich and creamy plain banana flavor, or, you can be super fun and add a scoop of fudge/nuts/peanut butter into your banana "ice cream." Of course I chose the fun option here.

5) Enjoy a little bit of your delicious treat, and then put it back in the freezer so it can harden.

  1. Ok I am SO jealous! I have wanted one of these for SO long. We just can't justify the price.
We sat and watched a demonstration at Sams Club for the Blendtec for about an hour. We had an appetizer, soup, ice cream, etc. All of them were so yummy. I bet you're having a blast. Such a great tool for baby food.

  2. Jealous as well. Our blender is literally on its last blade. My birthday is in August and I'm scheming up a way to get one down here for me :)

  3. Ugh, jealous. And way bad. Hopefully, hopefully we'll get one...might have to wait longer that I prefer, but we'll get one soon enough I think :)
